Hotel Review: Little Albion Surry Hills

Little Albion is located between Little Albion Street & Albion Street in Surry Hills which is one of Sydney's oldest suburbs known for it beautiful terraced homes, it's location is within close walking distance of Sydney's CBD and surrounded by many local cafe's. The hotel is housed in a historic church convent which was built in 1903 with a new extension built on the back which houses the hotels suites and reception. The hotel has 35 rooms and offers a range of accomodation from crash pad tiny bedrooms with queen beds, cosy bedrooms, classic and master bedrooms all with king beds housed in the historic part of the hotel through to the king suites located in the newer extension on the back of the building. We were able to book this hotel through Virgin Australia which allowed us to earn Velocity points on our stay.
The Room
We stayed in one of the hotels sweet's (yes that's what they call their suites), the suite occupies the entire second floor of the hotels newer extension and has a large ensuite suitable for guests who have accessibility requirements, it is open plan and features Crystalbrook collection exclusive toiletries. The bedroom has a king bed and Juliet style balcony accessed by two glass sliding doors which overlooks the terrace lined Little Albion Street with glimpses of Sydney's CBD over the rooftops. The room has an empty mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities (although no milk strangely), a flat screen TV, writing desk and reading chair and coffee table next to the Juliet balcony. There was complimentary filtered water beside the bed which is provided in reusable glass bottles as well as complimentary cookies. We loved how spacious the suite was and the Juliet balcony where we spent a lot of time relaxing with a glass of wine around sunset.
Customer Service
We found the customer service good, it was a little busy at check out but aside of that the reception staff were very good. We did find the cleaning staff could do a better job as our dirty glasses were not replaced or cleaned in our room and the rug on the floor was not vacuumed however this may have just been a one off during our stay. We did love the personalised feel we received from the staff and loved the fact that we felt at home at Little Albion, we could come and go without constantly bumping in to staff but at the same time they were always on hand to assist with anything we needed.
Restaurants & Bars
The hotel does not have an onsite restaurant, however it does have a dining/bar area where they serve a complimentary continental breakfast between 6:30am & 10:30am. The hotel also offers gin trolley and an honor bar featuring beer, wine, spirits and snacks 24hrs a day. The hotel does have a room service option where you can choose items from local restaurant menus and the hotel will arrange Uber Eats to collect the food and will then plate it up and deliver it to your room. We would have liked to see a stocked mini bar in the room rather than having to go down to the honor bar every time we wanted a drink or some snack but maybe this is something the hotel will introduce in future. We had breakfast both days of our stay across the road at the White Taro cafe and would highly recommend them to anyone staying at the hotel looking for a cooked breakfast.
Hotel Facilities
Aside of what has been mentioned above the hotel has its own art gallery and a roof terrace garden which you can use during the day and in the evening until 8pm. We did spend some time up there reading during our stay and enjoying the view. There are many excellent restaurants and cafes all within short walking distance of the hotel. It's definitely worth mentioning Al Taglio Italian which is pretty much next door to the hotel on Albion Street.
Summary
We enjoyed our stay at Little Albion, the staff were attentive and made us feel at home, although it didn't feel quite as luxurious as other boutique hotels we have stayed in we loved the quirkiness of the hotel and the surrounding terrace lined streets as well as the time we spent enjoying our Juliet balcony and the roof terrace. Would we stay at Little Albion again? Answer: Yes, next time we are in Surry Hills we will definitely stay again.
